PORT OF SPAIN, Trinidad (CANA) -- Trinidad and Tobago's international track star, Ato Boldon, says up and coming Jamaican sprinter, Patrick Jarrett, could be a real threat at the World Championships in Edmonton, Canada, August 3-12. The powerful Jamaican has been having an impressive season registering victories over Olympic champion, Maurice Greene of the USA, and Barbadian, Sydney 100 metres bronze medallist, Obadele Thompson. "Anybody who has beaten Oba and Maurice in the space of two weeks has to be regarded. It's pretty obvious he got a jump on the gun in the race against Maurice but he did beat Oba," Boldon told the Express newspaper. The four-time Olympic medallist is back home from his Los Angeles, United States base on a short visit to conduct personal business but is expected to leave on Friday for a training stint in London. Jarrett defeated Thompson in a meeting in Barbados earlier this month and on Sunday, in the Prefontaine Classic in Oregon, he clocked a wind-assisted 9.89 seconds in beating Tim Montgomery and Greene into second and third place respectively. "Jarrett isn't running any fantastic times as yet. But neither is anybody else. Pat Jarrett is certainly somebody we have to watch this year. He is training with Jones' (Marion) coach who is very competent," Boldon said. Boldon recalled that he first clashed with Jarrett some 11 years ago at the New York State Public High School Championships. "It was my first year running track. He got second in the 200 metres and I got third. I'm very familiar with Pat Jarrett and I'll be keeping an eye on him this year. So far he's certainly a threat," Boldon said. Boldon himself plans to reaffirm his world class status in Europe leading up to the World Championships.
