    Former Executive Director criticizes JADCO

    12:23 pm, Tue August 20, 2013

Former executive director of the Jamaica Anti-Doping Commission Renee Ann Shirley has joined the list of persons criticising the local anti-doping body, stating the current programme makes a mockery of the country's position against doping.
In a scathing article for Sports Illustrated Online, Shirley who was appointed the JADCO executive director in June 2012 before leaving under controversial circumstances in February of this year says between the time of her appointment and the London Olympics last year only one out of competition test was carried out.
She notes that the local anti-doping body conducted a total 98 drug tests in 2012 compared to the figures of 179 reported by JADCO. Both figures however contradict the WADA figures of 106 drug tests conducted by JADCO in 2012.
Meanwhile Shirley also highlighted that when she took over in mid July, JADCO did not have a large enough staff in place to carry out rigorous anti-doping programmes.
She also reveals there was no whereabouts information officer, only one full time doping control officer and that no monthly financial statements had been produced in the five years since inception.
Shirley concluded in her article called on cabinet to review the matter in all urgency and the necessary changes made to provide JADCO with the staff it needs to carry out world class testing.
