The Jamaica Football Federation's (JFF's) new assistant technical director, Walter Gama, will be the lowest paid of the coaches, taking home US$5,000 (J$350,000) a month - well below what his juniors are earning.
Gama... here for his second stint after serving between 1998-2000 With that in mind, JFF general secretary Horace Reid thinks Jamaica is fortunate to acquire a coach of his calibre at that cost.
Said Reid: "He had to fit within the budget we had. He being here is not so much a question of money; he has a lot of contacts. He is very qualified, has his PhD and I am sure he will make a significant contribution to the programme".
He added: "We are fortunate in what we are able to work out with Professor Gama. In fact, he is going to be paid much less than the other coaches, but he has given a committment to Simoes that once he had the time, he would make himself available and fortunately for us, he has time on his hands".
Gama, 62, is actually here for his second stint after serving between 1998-2000. His primary responsibility will be to co-ordinate the preparation of all of the Youth teams as well as the Women's programme.
"During his first stint his main responsibility was... with the Youth programme and we had tremendous success coming out of what he was able to implement.
"His primary focus will be our Youth programme so that coach Simoes, Montessio and Whitmore can focus on the World Cup campaign.
"We have this year, six of our Youth teams in competition - the Under-15, Under-17 and Under-20 Men and Women - so it is a very busy next six months for us," added Reid.
In the meantime, the JFF has terminated the contract of fitness trainer Alexander Montiero as a means of cost-saving.
