LONDON (AFP) - Chelsea manager Jose Mourinho has said recently retired French goalkeeper Fabien Barthez is not a signing priority as they look to plug the hole left by recent injuries.

Barthez's name had reportedly popped up at a Chelsea meeting this week following the serious head injury sustained by Petr Cech at the weekend.

Cech's replacement, Carlo Cudicini, was also injured in the 1-0 victory at Reading leaving the Londoners with only third-choice keeper Hilario to count on.

However after Hilario helped steer them to a 1-0 Champions League win over Barcelona on Wednesday Mourinho said Barthez - who is a free agent after retiring from the game earlier this month - was not their priority.

Mourinho said: "What we have to try to get is a third goalkeeper and Fabien is not a preferred third goalkeeper. He is a high-profile goalkeeper.

"What I know in this moment is that we have 50 agents calling us and, if they call us, they call the press.

"So Fabien Barthez is a name. There are a lot of names in the air. What I know is that Carlo (Cudicini) and Hilario are very good goalkeepers and it is not easy for somebody to come and play in this team.

"We need somebody to give us security and replace Petr Cech in the group of keepers. That is the profile of the goalkeeper we are looking for."

Cech is recovering from an operation on the serious head injury he suffered in the early stages of Saturday's Premiership win.

The 24-year-old was involved in a collision with Royals midfielder Stephen Hunt, whose knee connected with Cech's head during the challenge.

A leading neuro-surgeon on Monday warned that rushing Cech back into action could prove fatal, claiming his injuries would require at least six months out of the game.</TD></TR></TBODY></TABLE>
