Spurs' Darren Bent is better than United's floundering Berbatov and Liverpool's goal-shy Keane

Darren Bent is better than Dimitar Berbatov and Robbie Keane - and that's official.

Derided as an overpriced donkey when Tottenham signed him in the summer of 2007, Bent appears to have finally settled into life at the Lane.

Tottenham fans must have feared the worst when Jermain Defoe, Robbie Keane and Dimitar Berbatov left the club, but Bent is starting to show the kind of form that convinced Spurs to pay Charlton £16.5m for him.

Five goals in his last four appearances - including a hat-trick against Dinamo Zagreb - have ensured the 24-year-old striker has already surpassed his total for the previous campaign. Bent has now scored nine goals in 15 games this season - an impressive average of one goal every 114 mins.

By contrast Berbatov, who joined Man United for £30.75m at the end of the transfer window, has managed just five goals in 11 games at an average of one goal every 183 mins.

But it's even worse for former White Hart Lane hero Keane. The Irishman has found the net just twice in 18 appearances at an average of one goal every 584 minutes. Keane has only completed a full 90 minutes twice since his £20.3m move to Liverpool - and is yet to find the target in the Premier League.

Did Rafa and Fergie buy the wrong Tottenham striker? Probably not, but Tottenham fans will no doubt allow themselves a little chuckle at the fact that Bent has scored more goals this season than Berbatov and Keane combined. Now if they could just lift themselves off the bottom of the table...
