  • Grudge Match #2 Saturday At High Noon

Waukesha Catholic Memorial (19-3-2) and Green Bay Notre Dame (23-3-2) will meet again in the Division 2 finals of the Wisconsin state high school boys soccer championship. Notre Dame beat Catholic Memorial in last year's championship match.

Catholic Memorial looked impressive, with a 4-0 rout of Dodgeville/Mineral Point. Notre Dame beat Pewaukee 2-1 on an own goal with two minutes remaining. Notre Dame made a cross into the Pewaukee goal area. The ball bounced off the goaltender's hands and into the net.

(I saw the Catholic Memorial game and the first half of the Notre Dame/Pewaukee game. I left at halftime of that game because of rain.)

In the Division 1 semifinals, Milwaukee Marquette (21-2-1), the eighth-ranked team in the USA according to the NSCAA/Adidas polls, edged Homestead 1-0 in overtime.

Muskego (26-3-0) beat Milton 2-0 in the other Divison 1 semifinal.

Both Division 3 semifinals ended in shootouts.
McDonnell/Central/Regis (24-1-3) beat defending champion Milwaukee University School 7-6 in a shootout after a 1-1 draw. Columbus (19-5-3)
beat New Holstein 5-3 in a shootout, also after a 1-1 draw.

All three championship matches will be played Saturday. The weather forecast calls for a high temperature of a balmy 35 degrees, 20 mph winds, and a chance of snow.
