  • Gallas suffers knee injury blow

Gallas limped off just before half time in the 1-1 draw
Arsenal defender William Gallas could face a lengthy spell out of action after he damaged medial knee ligaments in the Gunners' 1-1 draw at Villarreal.

The Frenchman limped off after colliding with Villarreal striker Giuseppe Rossi late in the first half.

"It looks quite serious and could be medial knee ligament injury," said Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger

Goalkeeper Manuel Almunia is also likely to miss the return leg next week after he came off with an ankle injury.

Wenger did not know exactly how long the injury will keep his first-choice goalkeeper out for but estimated that the Spaniard would miss a fortnight.

"Manuel is a recurrence of an ankle injury, which probably will be a couple of weeks," Wenger said.

Gallas stayed on the field for several minutes after the challenge with Rossi before limping off and being replaced by Johan Djourou in the 43rd minute with Villarreal leading 1-0 in the first leg of the Champions League quarter-final.

"On Gallas it looks quite serious, we will have to asses it and I am not a doctor, but the first signs do not look too good," Wenger added.
