  • Seba United goes to Czech Republic for games

Seba United Football Club of Montego Bay, St James, will depart the island tomorrow for a one-week tour of the Czech Republic. They return to the island on Friday April 17, 2009.

While in the Czech Republic, the former National Premier League outfit will play two games, the first on April 14 against FK Most in the north of the country. Their second game will take place two days later on April 16 against Vitoria Plezen.

According to club President Orville Powell, several clubs ad indicated a willingness to play his team but time constraints made it difficult to satisfy them all. The trip he said was designed to offer exposure to his club’s players.

“This is a real opportunity for us to take full advantage of this stage afforded us to impress teams in Europe as we spread the wings of ‘Brand Jamaica’,” said Powell who is also the Chairman of the Western Football Confederation and President of the St James Football Association.

Winston Clarke of International Sporting Connections, the agency responsible for making the game happen, praised Powell for his vision, foresight and commitment to improving the standing of his club and by extension Jamaica’s football.

“Hopefully, this is an opportunity that more clubs can capitalize on in the near future,” Clarke said.

Clarke was also full of praise for the Jamaica Football Federation.

“The JFF has continuously sought opportunities for Jamaica’s players and it is largely through that effort and the national team creating history by qualifying for the 1998 World Cup that the country’s football has earned global mention,” said Clarke.

Accompanying the team will be Orville Powell, Bruce Gaynor, Michael Samuels (Head Delegation), Shawn Kelly (Team Manager), Norman Foster (Coach), and Alrick Henry (Assistant Coach).

The squad includes: Fitzroy Campbell, Ricardo Geddes, Mario Samuels, Keneil Moodie, Kemiro James, Delroy Ellis, Derrick Henry, Allen Ottey, Deshawn Woolery, Wilfred Smith, Darryl Murray, Jacomeno Barrett, Neil Lynch, Delroy McLeod, Terrence McIntyre, Ajohn Baker, Jerome Eccleston, Nicolie Barrett and Torrey Samuels.
