Wrong Ashley X. I am sure you are talking about Ashley Young. Dive is his middle name and you do not have to touch that for him to go flying.

If he was at the 18 yard line...he could not make the call! His angle of vision would not assist him from that position.
For any linesman to make that call he would have had to have reference points other than the ball only.
Let us say - i) If Carroll was stationary on the goal-line between the goal posts and then dived backwards to palm out the ball...then that standing on the goal-line could be the 1st reference point and ii) his action of diving backwards would be the 2nd reference point.
...it would not then be a stretch to assume that the ref and the linesman both would or one would have come to the reasonable conclusion that the ball was palmed out of goal. In this referenced case I do not think the linesman had a shot at making the call...
...the ref far as he was from play also could not make the call. Carroll was not on the goal-line. Yes, he dived backwards but where in relation to the goal he made contact with the ball would be mere guess by ref...
I just could not blame the ref team on this one.Last edited by Karl; October 29, 2012, 03:39 PM.

Well the linesman should have seen that ....but in any case the ref cannot be blamed for that PM.Originally posted by Paul Marin View PostSorry. The linesman was at about the 18 yard line when the ball crossed the line. Freeze frame at 32 seconds - the linesman was in full flight half way between him and the 18 yard line was the ball, simple extrapolation says he should have been at around the 18 yard line when the ball crossed. There is zero chance you can let them off the hook for this one.

UNEFFINGBELIEVABLE DISPLAY OF INCOMPETENCE AND (POSSIBLE -- BUT BECAUSE IS UNUH -- HIGHLY PROBABLE) CORRUPTION. Clattenfergie was digging himself into debt to the tune of £175k pounds by then, so him did need the money. :kissteeth:

Wouldn't he be relying on the linesman in that case. As for the linesman would he be further up the field? Remember the ball was in Spurs' half. I think it is unfair to blame the officials in this case.

The most ridiculous thing i have ever seen on this site , a poster telling another not to comment on a public post. The first time i encountered it was from a journalist on the site ,who further went on to quote his salary requirements to justify his post.
Immature.

Yeah yeah yeah...mi ago mek sure seh Mayor Bloomberg exact reparations fi di damage u ago cause New York...
Well, at least you manned up and called it fairly. That was a devasting decision - twice now (and 3 points) that we get tief.
Add to that Skrtel's mistake, that would have been 5 more points than our current 10 which would put us at 15 and level with Arsenal.
in 7th. Don't worry, we coming to come.

I agree that this could happen - if the world were flat!!!Originally posted by Karl View PostIn terms of protecting the FA's image and damage control for EPL and the lower leagues referees and refereeing I expect the FA to rescind Torres' red card, have Clattenberg either referee in a lower league for a few games and or withdraw him from EPL games for a few months. The messsage it is hoped the fans and the public at large will buy into is, "see...we are free from corruption and we take a dim view of poor match control! Our FA and the way our football industry is managed is with greatest integrity". ...and the beat goes on!
Remember that Clattenfergie also has a race allegation leveled against him. That is what has ratcheted up the stakes and could make your suggested course of action unlikely. They will keep the cards but most likely throw Clattenfergie under the bus if the race thing pans out. If the race thing DOES NOT pan out, then nothing of substance will happen...and I might add...the race thing is unlikely to pan out if it is based soley on player evidence...video will be needed. That's my guess.

Totally agree...the average fan is an idiot; they bring the game down to personal non-football issues without any real knowledge of facts. I am no Rio fan, but the man had every right to be vex with JT based on his interpretation of the situation between JT and Anton.Originally posted by Jangle View PostWhat is reprehensible is the Chelsea supporters booing Rio Ferdinand every time he touched the ball.
