  • Clubs & Stand alone academies...ENGLAND?

The FA, other stakeholders and the fans think there has been failure to produce the required numbers of top quality footballers.

After increasing investment in club academies and coaching, it says that the scheme, which is not even two years old, needs to be given time before implementing another shake-up.

All this coincided with the opening of the FA's own centre of excellence at St George's Park, yet Dyke still believes there is a case for going further.
Following more than 650 interviews with people across the game and more than six months of research, his special commission looking at the state of the English game has come up with four key recommendations focused on the development of players aged between 17 and 21:

    Please note that the statement...

...speaks to failures occurring even before that increased injection of funding?

Would it be fair to claim that the Academies such as they are, are not doing the job?

Further the FA and other stakeholders claim that at least part of the reason for the sustained failure lies with
Coaching and coach development, essentially at grassroots level, have not yet reached a satisfactory level and impact.
To put it another way; The FA and other stakeholders are claiming either the teachers are not up to snuff or teaching being of highest quality the access of the teaching to top talent is not there or a combination of both!

In any case, the conclusion is the necessary development on numbers of top quality players is not a result being gained.

Surely, there is question that could be posed on whether or not greater attention to the schools may be the missing ingredient?

Long past on this site, Lulu wrote on the possible effects taking football out of schools in Scotland had on the fall in Scotland's production of top quality players and quality national team -
Sport timetables have been cut back in school, and extra curricular games are practically non-existent. Before the teachers strike in the 1980's there were 200,000 registered players. After the strikes the numbers fell drastically to 2000, and have risen little since. Gone are the days when little boys gave their all to make the school team, if their school still has one!
