"It therefore is useless and pointless, unless it is for share malice and victimisation to arrest and charge a 92-year-old man for such a simple offence. There is nothing morally wrong with this man smoking a spliff; the only thing wrong is that it is still on the law books," said Chevannes.

Kingston needs to raise the height of its skyline. Seven stories is nothing. New buildings going up should start at a minimum 15 to 20 stories high.

They need 10 more in Kingston,Sass says to put them at the border of the surrounding parishes...lol.Because Kgn and St.Andrew doesn't have room.....lol.

They need to claim eminent domain over properties to rebuild the road service in Kgn 1st , Mobay ,and Portmore next.

Proven To Develop $1.7b High-Rise In New Kingston

The complex is being designed as a densely populated set of apartments, mostly super studios and one-bedrooms with very few two-bedroom units, he said. It will rise eight to 10 storeys.

"We are going to keep the price range affordable ..." said Williams, noting that it's doable because of volume.

Proven will use its first large development at Kingsway and Sullivan Avenue as a model but its architectural goal is to develop the new complex as a head-turner.

            Victoria Pier's new voyage

Victoria Pier was out of use for 15 years before Azar, et al pumped more than $100 million into renovating it. Azar described it as his riskiest venture as banks were reluctant to invest. But that did not stop him.

“It has breathed a life into Downtown,” he said. “It's one of the most dangerous projects, investment-wise, I've ever done but it's also the most fulfilling. We're in discussion with the mayor to pedestrianise Ocean Boulevard on some weekends where we can have craft fairs and food and musical expos; where people can come and walk and enjoy themselves on the Waterfront.”

The complex is expected to be a major tourism boost and has already been an economic boon for residents in surrounding communities who have gained employment.

B&D to develop The Spires in tribute to founder

Roderick 'Ricky' Francis, son of the late Roderick 'Bunny' Francis, says he intends to execute the dream project conceived by his father, a multibillion-dollar complex called The Spires to be developed on the Kingston waterfront.

"The first stage will be the 10-storey residential project on the waterside on the site we occupy. It's always been a dream of my father to develop the area and bring back downtown," said Francis. "We want to see Kingston as a premier city in the Caribbean, with downtown in particular being a driver for bringing people and commerce back."

Skyline shift - PM says Gov't getting requests for 20-storey buildings in the city

Prime Minister Andrew Holness has trumpeted that developers are buying into the vision of the Government and have moved to capitalise on infrastructural works now under way to modernise the city of Kingston.

He said that requests are coming in for approval for 20-storey buildings as developers seek to make better use of land in the capital.

High rise worry - Commercial and housing development outpacing country’s infrastructure, says concerned stakeholder

The outspoken Lue told The Gleaner that if Jamaica intends to copy developed cities as a means of showing its own level of development, it must also be willing to upgrade the inadequate essential infrastructure, including water supply, sewage, waste-water removal and treatment, as well as parking.

"I am not against development, but we have to make sure we get it done in a structured way. That includes making sure that a building that stands 20-storeys or higher has the requisite safety features," Lue said.

                            Preparing the city for skyscrapers

In that regard, we believe that doing some small, relatively inexpensive things will go a long way towards building the sense of worth and confidence of Jamaicans and, at the same time, help to prepare a sustainable environment for these projects. Not least of these is the regular collection of garbage, cleaning drains, and trimming the verges. In other words, there is need for a workable solid-waste management system, capable of meeting not only current demands but what else will be imposed on it by higher population densities in the city.

We appreciate, as Prime Minister Andrew Holness pointed out, that expanded roads in the city will go some way in improving infrastructure. But these roads assume more private vehicles, rather than enhanced public transportation and pedestrian routes normally expected in cities of skyscrapers and high population densities.
