Grange Hill, Glengoffe into Inter-Zone round

DARLISTON, Westmoreland — Grange Hill High and Glengoffe became the latest qualifiers for the Inter-Zone round of the ISSA Pepsi/Digicel daCosta Cup rural area schoolboy competition after scoring second-round victories yesterday.
They join seven other qualifiers, while Manchester High secured their place in the Ben Francis Knock-out from Zone F after beating Belair 3-2.
Those who have advanced to the Inter-Zone round so far are Grange Hill from Zone C, Ocho Rios and Cedric Titus from Zone D, Munro College from Zone E, Manchester High and Bellefield from Zone F, Spalding from Zone G and Dinthill and Glengoffe from Zone J.
Munro, Spalding and Dinthill are also into the Ben Francis KO contest.
Grange Hill topped Zone C after Rian Gayle’s sixth goal of the season gave them a 1-0 win at Maud McLeod in Darliston.
Grange Hill, who had beaten Maud McLeod 5-0 in the first round, lead Zone C with 21 points and need only a point from their final game against Mannings on Saturday to take group honours.
Petersfield, who mauled a slumping Mannings 5-2 to sweep their series, are second on 18 points — two more than Godfrey Stewart, who beat Little London 2-1. The two are battling to join Grange Hill in the next round.
Glengoffe beat Charlemont 3-1 to join Dinthill as the qualifiers from Zone J, but Dinthill’s 3-2 win over Ewarton was enough to hand them group honours with 25 points.
