    Cornwall into KO quarters

RADCLIFF Hall scored twice to lead seven-time champions Cornwall College to an easy 4-0 win over Cedric Titus High at Jarrett Park yesterday to advance to tomorrow’s quarter-finals of the ISSA/Pepsi/Digicel Ben Francis Knock-Out.
After an anxious few days during which the Inter-Secondary Schools Sports Association (ISSA) investigated the eligibility of one of their players, Cornwall dominated the encounter, racing to a 3-0 lead after just 17 minutes.
Under-20 representative Edward Campbell, who missed a first-half penalty, while Mikhail Weatherly scored the other goals.
Cornwall, the winners of Zone A in the daCosta Cup first round with 22 points after being deducted three by ISSA for using an ineligible player in a game against Herbert Morrison, will now face Zone C winners Grange Hill at Jarrett Park.
Other second-round games tomorrow will see Fair Prospect High taking on Dinthill Technical at Cader Park, Clarendon College and Garvey Maceo meeting at Brancourt and Rusea’s High squaring off with Manchester High at STETHS in Santa Cruz.
Yesterday’s game started about 40 minutes late due to a heavy shower just before the 3:00 pm kick-off time, but Cornwall settled early, pushing the Trelawny team back on its heels and were rewarded early.
Campbell gave the MoBay side the lead in the sixth minute when he hammered a shot past goalkeeper Joe Broodie from a corner swung in by Weatherly.
Weatherly got onto the scoresheet in the 11th minute when he finished off a good three-man combination which also involved Campbell and Hall, by taking the ball to the left touchline then powering it between Broodie and the near post.
Hall got the first of his brace when he ran onto a quickly-taken freekick and despite being tripped just inside the 18 yards area, maintained his balance long enough to slip the ball past the advancing Broodie.
Cornwall were awarded a penalty in the 30th minute after Ackeem Chambers handled the ball just inside his own area, but Campbell kicked straight at Broodie, who did well to parry.
After hitting the crossbar from close range in the 37th minute, Hall added his second in the 45th minute with an easy-looking loop past the out-of-position goalie.

Metro Clarke (centre), of Cedric Titus is double-teamed by Cornwall College’s Radcliff Hall (left), and Edward Campbell during yesterday’s Ben Francis KO match at Jarrett Park. Hall scored twice and Campbell once as Cornwall won 4-0 to advance to tomorrow’s quarter-

What the hell is wrong with issa . Did the suspended player get registered? Is the rules provided to all schools. Did Cornwall break a rule?. Should cornwall be ban for all other competition this year?

Garveo maceo or Glenmuir is winning d-cup anyhow.

Have Mercy, man you speak out of ignorance. There are over 150 schools taking part in both the Manning and daCosta Cup each season and ISSA does not have the man power to check every single registration with a fine tooth comb.

Yes it is not an excuse but a fact.

What they do is the teams that qualify to move on from the first round are scrutinised and actions if neccessary taken, happened to Ruseas a few years ago when they found two boys who did not have any birth certificates, which given what we know now was not that uncommon.

Rusea's was prevented from moving on and the third placed team in their zone given the Inter-zone place.

There have been instances when some schools have however slipped through the cracks and it is romoured that a recent champion had boys who were not in school the previous two years but that was not picked up.

As for your recommendation of banning Cornwall, calm down and stop being emotional, where in the world have you ever seen a team banned for one player being ineligible?

There are also rules and ISSA rules speak to the team losing points from games where the inelegible players took part. The rule says that with the exception of fraudulent birth certificates being used...

You asking ISSA to break their own rules?

Sickko, it would not be the most cruel thing in the world if a team is banned because of one ineligible player. I am sure it has happened before in many competitions.

Again I refer to the ISSA rules which speaks to what action should be taken in the event that a player is found to be ineligible and not by use of a fraudulent birth certificate.

A few years ago, the anchor leg runner on the Kingston College 4x400m relay team at Champs ran on the line and the points helped KC to win Champs over St Jago.

There was no doubting that the boy had infringed the rules or that the corrupt officials at Champs looked the other way but St Jago's appeal was outside of the 30 minutes limit stipulated in the Champs rules and so was thrown out.

Additionally many, including most in the media that video evidence be used but guess what, video evidence was not a part of Champs rules then, it is now.

Sickko, not saying that the rules should not be observed. Just saying that teams have been disqualified for ineligible players before, if is even just one player.
