But fellow St Elizabeth team, many-time winners Munro College, were held to a 2-2 draw by another Manchester team, Spalding High, in the opening game.
STETHS fell behind in the sixth minute when Gabbi Bradley netted for Holmwood. But striker Comar Pascoe found the equaliser in the 11th minute, while Downswell supplied the winning goals in the 70th and 89th minutes.

But Christopher, having only just arrived on the field, drew his team level when he netted with his left foot from Powell’s right-side free kick.
In the second game, STETHS were shocked early when Bradley scored with a bouncing header from Miguel Antoine’s free kick. But five minutes later, the ever dangerous Pascoe picked up Akeil Williams’ through pass following a dismantling dribble down the left by Downswell and hammered into the back of the net with his left-foot shot.
Holmwood were threatening to at least draw the game deep in the second half, when Downswell slipped under the right arm of his marker to brilliantly head home substitute Deshorn Brown’s leftside cross.
