Darren Moore
-Former-Player squad
Standing over six feet tall and weighing in excess of two hundred pounds, Moore is an imposing and intimidating figure to look at and play against. He was born in Birmingham, England to Jamaican immigrants and started playing professional football at the age of sixteen. His first contract was with third division club Torquay.
Darren made his debut for Jamaica in 1998, after being encouraged by the now retired, Paul Hall. Initially, his play for Jamaica was average at best, but just when the player appeared ready to up his game, two incidents occurred almost simultaneously that have cast doubt over his future with the Jamaican national team.
The first was a suspension that was handed down to Moore and four other players by new Technical Director, Clovis de Oliveira. The second occurred after Moore returned to England. He was offered a substantial amount of money by his club, Portsmouth. Inducement, one suspects, for him to quit international football and dedicate more time to club games. Moore appears to be caught in limbo and the Jamaican fans and coaching staff can only wait to see what decision the player will make.
'Bruno,' as Moore is called, joined Portsmouth after a two-year stint with Bradford City and a brief run in the English Premiership. Before playing for Bradford City, he played in 88 games for Doncaster and 120 for Torquay.
Physically, Moore is a coach’s dream for a defender. He is of good pace and is sure-footed. He tackles hard but with precision. His distribution is firm and accurate and he is very good in the air. As a player with such immense defensive attributes, he could be a stabilizing presence in the back line for the Reggae Boyz if he decides to put international retirement on hold.
