Linval Dixon is a player who has been there, done that, and has given his heart and soul to Jamaican soccer at all levels. He is a veteran defender, calm and composed, and consistently delivers quality performances game in, game out, without receiving much of the accolade.
Dixon, who first represented Jamaica in 1991, was a firm favorite of Rene Simoes'. In fact, during Simoes' tenure (1994-2000) as Technical Director, 'Rudi' as Dixon is affectionately called, was a constant in the Reggae Boyz line-up. He in return rewarded the coach and fans with a consistency that is unsurpassed by any other player in the squad, while maintaining and displaying top-notch discipline and professionalism both on and off the field.
He was selected to the Jamaican World Cup squad and traveled with the team to the France, but due to a very serious injury that happened prior to his arrival, he unfortunately was unable to participate.
With the appointment of another Brazilian, Clovis de Olivera, and upon the retirement of former captain and goalkeeper Warren Barrett, Dixon was given the captain’s armband. He led the team comfortably through to the second phase of World Cup qualification, and is no doubt keen to take them all the way to Korea/Japan.
A past Clarendon College representative, Linval is also captain of his club side, Hazard United FC. He was instrumental, last year, in helping them gain promotion to the ranks of the National Premier League, from the A-League.
Dixon has been through many wars and has the scars to prove it. Though slower and a bit older, the wisdom he has gained over the years makes him ideally suited to play the role as teacher, mentor and leader to the numerous youngsters that presently make up the Reggae Boyz roster. Linval is a tough defender who is able to tackle and remain on his feet; a beauty to watch on the dribble and while he has not shown it of late, possess a very lethal right foot. More importantly, he possesses the leadership qualities that stabilize and bind not only the Jamaican football team but also its fans.style='mso-spacerun: yes'>
