  • Heard on NBC during the Olympics

Here are the top comments made by NBC sports commentators so far during the Summer Olympics that they would like to take back:
    1. Weight-lifting commentator: "This is Gregoriava from Bulgaria. I saw her snatch this morning during her warm up and it was amazing."

    2. Dressage commentator: "This is really a lovely horse and I speak from personal experience since I once mounted her mother."

    3. Paul Hamm, Gymnast: "I owe a lot to my parents, especially my mother and father."

    4. Boxing Analyst: "Sure there have been injuries, and even some deaths in boxing, but none of them really that serious."

    5. Softball announcer: "If history repeats itself, I should think we can expect the same thing again."In fact you can see it all over their faces."

    7. At the rowing medal ceremony: "Ah, isn't that nice, the wife of the IOC president is hugging the cox of the British crew."

    8. Soccer commentator: "Julian Dicks is everywhere. It's like they've got eleven Dicks on the field."

    9. Tennis commentator: "One of the reasons Andy is playing so well is that, before the final round, his wife takes out his balls and kisses them...Oh, my God, what have I just said?"

"Never doubt that a small group of thoughtful, committed citizens can change the world. Indeed, it is the only thing that ever has."

Just recently, I tried to point out here that NBC had done a very good job in covering Jamaica's participation in the just-concluded Olympic Games. I could afford to make such an unpopular statement (here) because, as usual, I had videotaped coverage from NBC.

When I made that post, Mosiah, you responded with a statement that made me realize the appropriateness/correctness of my comment about the huge mistake made in the Jamaican media fraternity regarding blocking NBC. That was a huge mistake, as I suggested then, but I nevertheless chose not to reply to the comment you made.

Now, you've given me the task of going through my videotapes to select NBC's positive comments on Jamaica! But, I will do so, and soon!

            Historian,

You really believe that NOTshowing any of the sprint finals live, including relays I believe, was "good coverage"?

That to me (live showing) would be the most important criterion in judging the coverage they gave JA...while we are primarily a T&F team... I don't remember seeing any other Jamaicans in other sports.

Like I said, NBC was not totally blocked, but thank goodness we didn't have to wait for prime time to watch Usain win! We did see quite a bit of Costas, and s'long as we made sure to digest our food properly before watching, we managed to keep the puke down!

thank you! nbc having positive comments about jamaica is not a big deal. how could any country or station not appreciate our contribution to and excellence in T&F over the years, particularly this one?
