Raceway Golf Teed Up to Attract New, Wider Audience to Professional Golf

LPGA players Paula Creamer, Christina Kim and Suzann Pettersen Set to Compete in New Format at ‘The Mojo 6' Tournament in Jamaica

ORLANDO, FL – December 2, 2009Raceway Golf ™, a new, innovative golf format that combines the best elements of traditional play with one-on-one match-ups to appeal to golf enthusiasts and to attract new fans to the sport, was announced yesterday in Orlando by Mojo Marketing & Media. This spring, 16 LPGA players will battle for a $1 million dollar purse at the unveiling of Raceway Golf at The Mojo 6 (www.themojo6.com) tournament, to be held at Cinnamon Hill Golf Course at Rose Hall in Montego Bay, Jamaica, April 15-16, 2010.

This LPGA sanctioned tournament marks the return of professional golf to Jamaica and the Caribbean for the first time in two decades, and will be broadcast on the CBS network later in the spring.

Played over two days, Raceway Golf pits 16 top players against each other to battle out a series of six-hole matches to crown a winner. On the first day, each golfer has three separate six-hole matches to accumulate points to establish a Day One ranking from 1 to 16.

The top eight golfers move on to Day Two, Championship Day, and compete in a tournament bracket single-elimination, where three match victories crowns the champion. Further, Raceway Golf players face new challenges throughout the tournament as hole-setup changes after each round, which forces players to develop personal strategies and make risk-reward considerations when picking their opponents on Day One.

Top LPGA players Paula Creamer, Christina Kim and Suzann Pettersen, have already confirmed their participation in this debut event. They joined Mojo in Orlando yesterday, where they received the first three coveted invitations to compete in The Mojo 6 in Jamaica. Also in attendance was Honorable Olivia Grange, Jamaica's Minister of Youth, Sports and Culture, who expressed her excitement to work with Mojo on this new golf play format.

“The Mojo 6 is the ideal platform to bring women's professional golf back to Jamaica after a 20-year break, and it comes at a time when we are strengthening our sports tourism product, having recently been named ‘Golf Destination of the Year for the Caribbean and Latin America' by the International Association of Golf Tour Operators,” said Minister Grange. “I am excited about what the introduction of Raceway Golf can do to generate further interest in Jamaica as a top tourism and golfing destination, while also introducing Jamaica's youth to the game. We are also delighted to be partnering with fellow Jamaican and Mojo founder, Joy Stephenson, on The Mojo 6 event.

“Mojo is thrilled to work with the government of Jamaica, through its Ministry of Youth, Sports and Culture, and Ministry of Tourism, as well as with the LPGA, to formally introduce the exciting Raceway Golf format to the golfing world and to a larger, more diverse audience who may not have watched golf in the past,” said Ed Moses, Olympic champion and co-founder of Mojo. “Raceway Golf is not only fun and challenging for the players, but also fun for the whole family to watch together. With the addition of golf to the Olympic Games beginning in 2016, there is no better time than the present to begin growing excitement for the game around the world.”

In keeping with its mission to create compelling, family-friendly entertainment, Mojo will package The Mojo 6 in Jamaica for broadcast on CBS with additional original content that is not typically aired in conjunction with a professional sporting event. Additional coverage is set to include in-depth interviews with players, stories about Jamaica's history and culture, performances by some of Jamaica's and the Caribbean's best-known entertainers, sports clinics and exclusive “behind the scenes” footage of what it takes to stage an international golf event.
As with all Mojo Marketing & Media properties, The Mojo 6 in Jamaica, and all future The Mojo 6 tournaments, will include activities designed to increase awareness about the importance of charitable giving. Since no two markets are identical, this element of each The Mojo 6 tournament will reflect the unique character, needs and opportunities for charity involvement of its host market.

“Mojo's Raceway Golf should be a fantastic way to broaden the appeal of professional golf,” said LPGA Acting Commissioner Marty Evans. “We're delighted that Mojo has partnered with the LPGA to introduce this innovative format, and we are looking forward to a fun and exciting tournament in Jamaica this spring.”

“I'm honored to be invited to play in The Mojo 6 in Jamaica,” said LPGA player Paula Creamer. “Not only is this exciting for the players who will have the opportunity to select their competitors in a unique, head-to-head format, but it will also bring an added level of excitement for both new and avid golf fans.”
