FROM PAUL REID at the 2010 IAAF WORLD JUNIOR CHAMPIONSHIPS in Moncton, Canada
    Tuesday, July 20, 2010

MONCTON, Canada — An unnamed athlete was kicked out of the 13th IAAF World Junior Championships here after the organisers discovered that the athlete was not eligible for the event.
The name, sex or country of the athlete was not revealed, but the news broke late yesterday at the meet that is open to athletes between the ages of 16 and 19 years old.

Earlier in the day, Pierre Weiss, General Secretary of the IAAF, was forced to defend the Federation's vigilance concerning management of the eligibility of the athletes at their events.
At a press conference earlier in the day, Weiss had told the international press that they had also refused three others from taking part in the Youth Olympics to be staged in Malaysia next month because of age issues.
While accepting that it is not always easy to catch those who broke the law and submitted faulty documents, he said they were making strides with the help of technology.
Weiss said the IAAF had developed a data base of all athletes who take part in their meets and passport pages had been photocopied and scanned into their systems for cross reference.
The IAAF General Secretary said that the practice of trying to falsify documents was a serious concern by the IAAF and they were doing all they could to stamp it out.
