Already a celebrated and iconic sports figure, Usain Bolt had set his ambitions on becoming a "legend" in global athletics.

With gold medal-winning individual world records in 100m and 200m races and the 4x100m relay, Bolt, to us, was not only a legend, but the greatest sprinter of all time, pipping Jesse Owens at the line.

Whatever may be Bolt's view on the matter, by retaining his Olympic 100m crown, he, whatever his exploits in the 200m, merely reconfirmed his status.

Shelly-Ann Fraser-Pryce may not yet be a legend, but her repeat of the 100m victory at the Olympics confirms as worthy her place in the pantheon of great female sprinters.
