MIAMI (Sporting Alert) — ESPN analyst, Michael Wilbon, has voiced his disappointment pertaining to comments made by American track and field legend, Carl Lewis, about the Jamaican sprinters.
Jamaican sprinters, especially World Record holder Usain Bolt, have been setting the world alight in the last few major championships and Lewis, who himself has enjoyed a number of successes during his time on the track, has his doubts about the speedsters from the little island in the Caribbean.He also continued to be suspicious about the Jamaican drug testing system and claims that the island doesn't test its athletes enough.
And more success only led to more suspicions.
Following another stellar run in London, Lewis took a swipe at the Jamaicans after Bolt, who set a new Olympic record of 9.63secs, led home his training partner Yohan Blake (9.75) in a Jamaican 1-2 finish in the men's 100m.
Many have had enough and Wilbon believes the American legend went too far this time.
The ESPN columnist thinks that one of track and field idols shouldn't be going as far as accusing other athletes of cheating without any proof.
"He went too far," Wilbon said during his show, Pardon The Interruption, on ESPN on Friday.
"If I was sitting in the room with him, I would say 'Carl don't do this, don't go there."
And Bolt, who completed the sprint double at the London Olympics on Thursday to become the first man to defend both sprint crowns at the Games, also took the chance to voice his disappointment with Lewis' comments, stating that, "I have no respect for him."
"All the drug stuff," Bolt added,. "For an athlete to be out of the sport and to be saying that is really upsetting."
