Bolt upbeat about Worlds 4x100m gold

    Saturday, August 17, 2013 | 11:53 AM

KINGSTON, Jamaica -- Double World sprint champion Usain Bolt has expressed confidence in Jamaica taking gold in the 4x100 relay at the 14th World Championships in Moscow on Sunday, the final day of the meet.

“We have a great team, it should be great run,” Bolt said in a television interview after creating history winning the 200m final.

Meanwhile Jamaica at the end of the penultimate Day 8 of the Championships has copped seven medals -- four gold, two silver and a bronze.
The women’s 4x100 relay final will also take place Sunday morning with Jamaica harbouring great expectations for a medal.

Heats in the women's 4x100 start at 7:15am and the men's at 7:50am Jamaica time.

    Well....

Well, first they have to get the baton safely around. I still remember similar sentiments being expressed by Maurice Greene and his boys prior to the 4x100-meter relay during the 2004 Athens Olympics.

I’m sure we all remember that an inferior team (that is, inferior as far as speed is concerned) won that Olympic gold medal, while a desperately finishing Greene could only manage a silver for his country and team. In 400-meter relays, there is no room for error. Literally!

Moral of the story: Sprint relays are not only about foot speed, but smooth, flawless baton changes are absolutely essential (as Jamaica’s women demonstrated so well at Berlin 2009). This is why it is essential that Warren Weir (Racers Club teammate of Bolt and Bailey-Cole) run the curve in the final tomorrow.
