National discus record holder Traves Smikle is taking his case to the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) to see if they will overturn a two-year ban imposed on him by a Jamaica Anti-Doping Disciplinary Panel last week. But he needs help.
The thrower who turned 22 in May needs US$1,200 to apply for legal aid from the CAS so he can get his case heard. Should he not be able to come up with the fee, sources familiar with the situation said that it could cost the former Calabar star up to £25,000 to retain the services of an attorney to plead his case. Smikle tested positive for the diuretic (Hydrochlorothiazide) HCT during the national championships in June 2013. He had submitted three partial urine samples as he was unable to provide the required amount when he was tested after competition.
Smikle had provided three samples when he was tested in June 2013, but contrary to international testing standards he was allowed to deposit all his samples into the same container. JADCO's attorney, Lackston Robinson, however, insisted that the athlete be banned for two years. While he agreed that there was a departure from the accepted testing standards, the results were not invalid.

Paul Marin -19 is one thing, 20 is a whole other matter. It gets even worse if they win the UCL. *groan*.
