THERE IS ONLY ONE ONANDI LOWE!

"Good things come out of the garrisons" after his daughter won the 100m Gold For Jamaica.

"It therefore is useless and pointless, unless it is for share malice and victimisation to arrest and charge a 92-year-old man for such a simple offence. There is nothing morally wrong with this man smoking a spliff; the only thing wrong is that it is still on the law books," said Chevannes.

What this highlighted, and it is an issue that was touched on by the head coach of the team as they returned from the IAAF meet, is the lack of collaboration between the governing JAAA and the various school coaches as to preparing the student athletes for these summer tournaments. While this does not seem to be a recurring theme, steps must be taken quickly to strengthen these connections and the development of a clearly defined athlete development plan and pathway. This may serve as a solution to the problem.

Thanks to Usain Bolt, Shelly-Ann Fraser-Pryce, Bob Marley, Marcus Garvey, and our other icons, Brand Jamaica is up there in neon lights. A conservative estimate of Jamaica's brand value is US$40-45 billion; more than twice the Gross Domestic Product (GDP), ie the total value of goods and services produced in the economy. Why the gap between the value of the brand and what we earn from it? The greatest part of the gap is attributable to us not having developed a sports industry, a music industry or any other industry, for that matter. It is industry -- the productive capacity and wealth-producing enterprises of a nation -- that produces growth in an economy, measured by GDP.

No comment ?...lol...i heard a guy on hitz fm bawling that he wants to buy a RBYZ jersey to support the team but there are no outlets in the island that sell them,i can imagine its the same with track and field gears, not even out of the island. The fastest and easiest way to leverage your product is merchandise ,these writers are starting to ask questions but they need to focus on how the JAAA sources its money, how its spent ,and are the stakeholders getting value for its money, the stakeholders involve fans who want jerseys ,gears etc not just athletes who need assistance.

They need to take a leaf out of UST&F and form a union. No way in the world our athletes should be struggling, given that they have a billion dollar market to source revenue.

Yes, I said this all at the CTFF.

JAAA shouls be out of the operational side and become Board directors and hire pros to form the executive.

I think it will take a civil war for that to happen, The JAAA is comfortable in its graces , this must be the only organization that doesnt beg for money, sponsorship just comes to it ,its financial relationship with Puma is a mystery, but we see it on full display , look at the logo on the teams

                http://cdn.urbanislandz.com/wp-conte...pic-team-1.jpg

Those 4 athletes have individual sponsors from adidas, nike to puma itself.

How much is the JAAA getting for that ?

How is it being spent ?

Why cant the stakeholders , fans buy JAAA gears ?

Back to the Penns arguement , you see nike gears on sale in all the shops,do you have Puma gears on sale on the T&F circuit in europe (IAAF meet) is it linked to brand Jamaica ?

People interested in red herrings about coaches having quarrels over camps or screw ups like Carter but the real issues are money, it always has been.

Franno said it , they operate in secrecy and no one knows how the money is being spent.

Jamaicas success has been despite the JAAA.Beijing 2004 proved this, they were unprepared for the success and acted as such, trying to ban MVP athletes from competing at a championship and the IAAF stepping in to sort them out.

                          The late Neville ‘Teddy’ McCook.

As we reflect on the tearful interview conducted by Television Jamaica's Kayon Raynor with discus thrower Jason Morgan and other team members, now we know the travails of our athletes. I remember a strong campaign launched by candidates for the new Jamaica Athletics Administrative Association (JAAA) executive a few years ago, complete with full-page advertisements. Was this done because there was a fire in their bellies to support our athletes, or were there other reasons? These discussions in media and social media have led to great wonderment and disappointment.

Just this - When should the initiators of progress to the light stop being given props for starting the process?

Should we ever speak of our athletes successes without some mention of the schools? ...or the JAAA? ...and yes, both should be questioned for not moving the process along as rapidly as it should if they are at fault!

So my point is, without the Schools and the JAAA we would not be where we are and would not continue along the path we are traveling...but it is 100% right to call for improved management at the JAAA level. Never turn a blind eye to that organization's faults...but disowning your 'ancestors' is 'not good'!!!

Jamaica's successes have a great deal to do with the JAAA. ...but that body needs a over-haul!!! ...professional mangers at the helm!!!

Redherrings to squeeze in praise , be blunt with your praise instead of evasive , if you believe it has a great deal to do with the JAAA, why were they so unprepared for the success in 2004 Bejing and all whats happening post Beijing , in fact where are they now with our athletes that need help , the 40 odd that have no support in Beijing , MVP group that brought home i believe 4 of the 12 medals , 2 being Gold, thats 33 % (Franno says he gets no support from the JAAA).

That 33 % could be calculated as no suppport, i have a feeling it is double that and I am being conservative ,are you calculating this camp i.e lip service as support ,like the JAAA has? or are you factoring that they have set up an administartive arm that sits on its ass for sterile reference as being in place ?
