  • Respect to my cousin Samuel "Dave" Lamount

Former Jamaican international table tennis player Samuel Lamount defied age, injury and the extremely cold weather to win the 2050 rating event at the Westchester table tennis Open on December 30, 2017 in Pleasantville, New York.

Lamount who is a reggae singer known as YOGA MAN and one of the most certified table tennis coaches in the world was musical as he released a number of powerful forehands coupled with his deceptive services. Despite showing the signs of extreme exhaustion he comfortably defeated American Alec Holst 13 -11, 6-11, 10-12, 11-9 for a 3 games to one victory

Alec had serious problems when serving to Lamount since Lamount has the ability to attack even tight services. He also had a great deal of difficulty controlling his service returns so his game was built around retrieving powerful attacks. This strategy could not win as an attacker of Lamount's quality would have had to have a very low percentage to lose such a game.

Earlier in the semi-final Lamount defeated Bryan Cuevo 10-12, 11-7, 11-4, 11-5 whereas Holst defeated Alvin Lu 11-9, 11-2, 11-8.

The open section was won by top world rated Croatian National player Tomislav Pucar who defeated US national player Kai Zhang 11-7, 11-9,11-4.

Westchester Table Tennis Center is owned by Will Shortz who is an editor of the New York Times. The club is managed by former three times Caribbean Men's singles champion Robert Roberts of Barbados.

The center is the biggest table tennis facility in the entire North Eastern United States and now host monthly international tournaments where top players from around the entire world are invited including China, Korea, Japan, Africa and Europe.

Nationals from over thirty countries including four Jamaicans who journeyed from Jamaica, competed in a number of USTTA rated events and an Open category. Coach Lamount had brought players to compete but he took the honors.

The Reggae land Table Tennis Academy which was founded by Samuel Lamount was among the international players invited to the tournament. Interestingly, Reggaeland has produced some of the best young table tennis players in Jamaica.

The Reggae Land Table Tennis Academy has the distinction of being awarded the International Goodwill Fund in 2007.

This propelled chairman Samuel Lamount to be seen as one of the greatest developers of international sports as he not only catered to disadvantaged and at risk children. He used his musical and acrobatic ability to raise funds that developed Titchfield High School in Portland as one of the best examples of table tennis in Schools world wide in terms of National victories. He also trained and sponsored a host of national junior players.

At the recently concluded Jamaica National Table Tennis Championship December 15 to 17, 2017 players from Reggae Land won all the national male titles on offer from the Under 18 age group upwards with the exception of the national Men's singles crown which was retained by Simon Tomlinson.

Samuel Lamount is a three time national champion having won the Veteran Over 40, the Men's doubles along with the sensational Rajni Brown and securing the team event for his parish namely Portland.

and Samuel Lamount who is one of the most distinguished personality at the international scene as once again represented his country as a table tennis ambassador.

His journey to America also includes the release of a new Cd album entitled ONLY LOVE. The title track which is also called ONLY LOVE is the remedy for a troubled world.
