Johnny Reid back at the helm of Village United

    HORACE HINES Observer staff reporter

FALMOUTH, Trelawny — The management of struggling Cash Plus Premier League (CPPL) campaigners Village United has reinstalled Fitzroy “Johnny” Reid at the helm of the coaching staff.
The Trelawny-based outfit is currently languishing at the bottom of the CPPL table on one point and Reid is now tasked with the formidable responsibility of yanking the team from the floor of the point standings.
Towards the end of last season Reid took over the reigns of the coaching staff after the departure of longtime head coach Dr Dean Weatherly.
Reid, who is also a certified JFF match commissary for over 15 years, has guided the team from ninth place to finish the season seventh in the point standings.
But, he fell out of favour with the Village management because of “a little misunderstanding”.
At the beginning of this season, Reid was replaced by Christopher Russell, who previously coached Naggo’s Head. After a couple games, Russell resigned, citing internal differences which made it difficult for him to reach his objectives.
According to Reid, he is up to the task of salvaging the Trelawny football ambassadors from the base of the points standings.
“It is still early in the season. It is a challenge, but it is not anything that is impossible because the team that is out there now is a good team... a good bunch of guys, basically the same team we had last season,” the certified Level Two JFF coach, who also holds a, English FA coaching certificate, noted.
He further said that with the addition of tackling midfielder Oniel “Za-Pow” Robinson, the team may even be stronger now.
“Right now what you see happening at Village is they are still searching for a right formula. That is what is happening. You notice they don’t start the same 11 every game and they change the formation every game. So what you find is that the preseason is going on in the season,” Reid argued.
But Village, who drew their first assignment 2-2 with Tivoli Gardens, then lost 1-2 to newcomers St George’s; 0-3 to Harbour View; and 0-2 to August Town, will not have Reid on their bench when they face Seba United at Jarrett Park tomorrow, due to a previous engagement.
However, he will be in attendance at Sunday’s game.
