    Kickers Sign Dawkins

The Richmond Kickers are pleased to announce the signing of Jamaican forward Fabian Dawkins, pending USSF and visa approval. Dawkins brings three seasons of USL First Division experience to Richmond, between the Atlanta Silverbacks and Montreal Impact.

“Fabian is a quality player with plenty to prove,” comments Leigh Cowlishaw, Richmond Kickers Head Coach. “He has been frustrated with injuries the past two seasons but at his best he is a very dangerous player with exceptional speed. I know he is eager to have a standout season with the Kickers so he can consolidate his place in the Jamaican World Cup Qualifying Squad.”

A native of Trelawny, Jamaica, Dawkins joins the Kickers from Village United FC of the Jamaica Premier League. He made nine appearances with the Montreal Impact in 2007, making his first appearance in Montreal on April 21, 2007 in Atlanta, against his former team. Previously, the 5’10” forward finished second in the USL1 in 2005 with 15 goals and 34 points while registering one goal and adding three assists in 2006, in 44 appearances overall with the Silverbacks. Prior to joining USL, Dawkins spent three seasons with Village United FC where he led the club in points for three consecutive seasons (2002-2004).

Touted the most lethal goal scorer to come out of Jamaica by Village United FC, Dawkins is a current member of the senior Jamaican National Team. He has also played with the Reggae Boyz U-23 and U-20 teams, captaining the U-20 squad en route to the FIFA U20 World Cup in Argentina where he scored the lone goal for his team in the tournament.

The Kickers open the 2008 regular season on Saturday, April 19th against the Western Mass Pioneers. Kickoff is set for 7:00 pm at the University of Richmond Stadium (just off the Downtown Expressway). Fans are encouraged to purchase a 15th Anniversary coupon for $15, which allows admittance for an unlimited number of friends, family members and coworkers. Visit RichmondKickers.com to order a 15th Anniversary coupon in advance. This offer is not available at the gate.

The USL Second Division boasts ten (10) teams from mostly the East Coast and is the second highest level in the United Soccer Leagues (USL) system. For more information please visit www.RichmondKickers.com.

Do they mean the most lethal goal scorer to come out of Jamaica's Village United FC? I think that's what they mean.

Anyway, I think he deserves a look by Simoes and team.

There is another Jamaican at Richmond Kickers too - Defender Trevor McEachron.

Again!!!! ???? !!!! ???? I guess it's better (financially speaking) than playing in the NPL but yikes!!! The local players are badly in need of good agents who can get them into quality leagues in Germany, Spain, France, England, Sweden, Argentina, Mexico and Brasil. Our players need better leagues than the USL to hone their skill and game.

A bit of correction: Fabian is NOT "a native of trelawny." He actually is from rural St Andrew, in the August Town area. Fabian attended high school at JC (Jamaica College). BTW, August Town has produced quite a few outstanding Jamaica players; the legendary former World Cup player, Peter "Jair" Cargill, numbered among them.
