    Hue, Kelly recalled

    Tuesday, August 05, 2008

Harbour View midfielders Jermaine Hue and Keith Kelly have been included in a 23-man local-based squad to begin training for the country's upcoming World Cup qualifier against Canada.

Jamaica's Jermaine Hue (left) being tackled by Wayne Bridge of England during an international friendly at Old Trafford in 2006.
Both players, despite their obvious qualities, have not been a part of the national team set up for some time.

Hue, a long-time Harbour View player who lit up the local Premier League, ventured to North America to play in the MLS for Kansas City Wizards in 2005 where he stayed for one season. The following year he moved to Mjallby, Sweden, for a short stint before heading back to Jamaica.

The 30-year-old Hue, who made his debut for the country over nine years ago, was last invited to the national squad in February against Costa Rica in an Ash Wednesday friendly international.

Kelly, 25, was once seen as the brightest talent on the local horizon. That belief seemed justified when at 17 years old he was picked up by famed French club Paris Saint-Germain. He was later loaned out to Belgian club Mons before returning home where he represented Arnett Gardens.

He made another move abroad to Trinidadian club San Juan Jabloteh in 2005 where he suffered a badly broken ankle. That injury kept him out of serious action until last season when he returned to Harbour View FC, his first club.

Kelly, who made his senior team debut in November 2001 and who last played for Jamaica against Barbados in 2005, did little to convince until recently in a practice game against the national team while playing for Harbour View. In that game both himself and Jermaine Hue impressed technical director Rene Simoes enough for him to invite them to the squad.

"They are playing like new people. I like what I see now," Simoes said of the duo, who showed good mobility while providing defence-splitting passes for their forwards.

Besides Hue and Kelly, seven Under-20 players will form a part of the camp. Central defender and team captain Andre Darby, his central defensive partner Keithy Simpson, right-back Levaughn Williams and Andre Campbell, have been included in the squad. Of that four only Darby has been invited before.

Forward Andre Clennon earned his first call up, while central midfielders Evan Taylor and Davian Thorpe, both of Reno have again earned the right to train among the big boys.

Also included in the squad are goalkeepers Donovan Ricketts, Shawn Sawyers, Dwayne Miller, while O'Brian Woodbine, Eric Vernan and Jermaine Taylor complete the list of defenders.

Keniel Moodie and Hugh Howell earn call ups as central midfielders, while Ricardo Cousins and Jevaughn Watson are listed alongside Hue and Kelly as offensive midfielders.

The trio of forwards Kavin Bryan, Keammar Daley and James Thomas have kept their places in the squad.

Camp begins on August 7 and breaks on August 14. Jamaica open their account in the penultimate round of the CONCACAF World Cup Qualifiers on August 20 in Toronto.

OOOOH PLEASE RENE ,"They are playing like new people. I like what I see now," Simoes said of the duo, who showed good mobility while providing defence-splitting passes for their forwards.

Its more like one respected Brazillian from H.V asked another the T.D of the national program, why are you excluding the best M.D in Jamaica from the national team ?
THERE IS ONLY ONE ONANDI LOWE!

"Good things come out of the garrisons" after his daughter won the 100m Gold For Jamaica.

"It therefore is useless and pointless, unless it is for share malice and victimisation to arrest and charge a 92-year-old man for such a simple offence. There is nothing morally wrong with this man smoking a spliff; the only thing wrong is that it is still on the law books," said Chevannes.

Aaah. Jerry returns. Hope him get a decent run this time. Quite possibly the most creative midfielder the national team has seen since simoes set foot here in 1994. Yes, I think on potential, he as good as, or better than tappa. Just my opinion.
