  • Bruce Arena to LA?

    'Where there's smoke...there's fire".

Arena worked under Lalas at Red Bulls. He did not last long.

I think the LA Galaxy cleared the way in order to hire Bruce Arena.

CARSON, Calif. (AP) - Former U.S. national team coach Bruce Arena watched Thursday night's Los Angeles Galaxy game with president and CEO Tim Leiweke of AEG, which owns the team.

the week, Ruud Gullit resigned as coach of the slumping Galaxy and president/general manager Alexi Lalas was let go. Assistant coach Cobi Jones filled in on an interim basis for the game against Chivas USA.

Leiweke obviously would like to have Arena become the coach, but said the meeting was not really a job interview and indicated that such a move was not imminent.
"With Bruce, it's not an interview, it's a conversation," Leiweke said. "I personally think he's the best coach in the history of the league and we'd be lucky if we can get him here. That said, he's not the coach of the Galaxy; Cobi is. That's the way it is as of today."
Arena resigned as coach of the Red Bulls last November after they were eliminated from the first round of the playoffs for the second year in a row. Before that, he had a 71-30-29 record as the national coach, but was dismissed after the U.S. team failed to get out of the first round in the 2006 World Cup. He won or shared five NCAA titles as coach of Virginia and won two MLS championships and the CONCACAF Champions Cup with D.C. United.
