  • The game? Facts! - Mex vs Reggae Boyz

    Do we remember -
*- #17 gave the Free Kick that led to the first goal?

    - the 1st goal was scored by the kicker going - The ball passing just over the heads of... - over the wall and into the goal?

    - Fuller gave away the ball that led to a Mex counter...that ended with a 2 on 1 on Ricketts...that Ricketts dived and cut out the cross, at the feet of the 2nd attacker somehwere between our (his) Goal Area line and the Penalty Spot?

    - the 2nd Free Kick on the edge of the area was again caused by a mis-timed tackle by #17?

    - that long passes were the order of the day to Burton and Fuller? ...that most often - appeared to be 95+% - speed away from both forwards? ...they had not a hope in hell of catching up with those balls and our midfielders and defenders were blind to the fact that they should have changed to passing to Burton's and Fuller's feet?

...more later! ...including some passing stats, shots on goal stats, touches and completed passes...etc.

*see correction below as pointed out by Rudi (#12 - Philips committed the foul and thus gave away the free-kick!

      Have we forgotten that -
in the 1st half Mexico had 13 good scoring opportunities (took 2)...and we had 2 (header by Pepe in the 6 yard box (Goal-Area) mistimed jump from Andy's kick (worked corner by Andy & Bibi)

...and Burton, again in the 6 yard box (Goal-Area) with the ball passing behind and to his left away from the goal which he headed out for a throw-in on the opposite side (our attacking right) ... + 2 so-so chances?

Three of Mexico's chances in particular - the two on one mentioned above in the first fact post...and a swift 1-2 that had Ricketts pressuring by racing out to the striker, who blasted over the bar when a simple raised touch would have done the trick and a missed header - The Mexican coming in from the left (Ricketts' right) and missing the gaping right section of the goal (Mex's right/Rickett's left - headed down and bounced high just wide of goal ... - had us thanking our lucky stars!

Imagine if those had gone in it would have been 5 down
      before half-time?

Austin with 5 outlets sat on the ball...he finally passed to 'Bibi' Gardner who slipped...Mexico directly from Bibi's slip gained possession after a series of 4 or 5 passes a shot was taken which Ricketts pushed back into play...Marshall challenged for the ball on Rickett's push...unfortunately Marshall deflected the ball out to a Mexican who was left open by our #7...that Mexican lashed the ball (Remember deflected out by Marshall) thunderously into goal!

A series of errors started by Austin! ...then Bibi...then Ricketts' unfortunate push directly into play in front of his goal...Marshall not getting a good foot onto the ball...our #7 not closing down the scorer!

Wrong Karl, Bibi tried to do something which he is not particularly adept at ie beating a player one on one. Worst he did this pretty deep in our end. In case we forget he was playing defense a defenseman should never loose the ball in his own end that way. By the way this is not the first time this as happened but because of who he is excuses are made. To my mind the 2nd goal was the back-breaker. had we gone in at half time 1:0 downit would have not been so bad.

I was wondering what game Karl watched. Bibi was not under any tpe of pressure when he lost that ball. He did not lose it as a result of a bad pass or not having an outlet for a pass. he lost it because he chose to take on a player.

Again I'm left to wonder what you were watching. The first goal resulted from an ill advised tackle from #12 ie Demar Philipps. To componnd things for some inexplicable reason Ricketts chose to hug the far post. a novice such as myself predicted where the free-kick would go the only variable was if it would get over the wall. No one jumped on the kick so ......

                  Wrong on what?
What I reported are as the game was played and with a review of the video. Every single thing I wrote happened.

Austin made a poor choice after 'fooling around with the ball'...Bibi who received the ball from Austin fell over the ball...the Mexicans gained possession......Mexico directly from Bibi's slip gained possession after a series of 4 or 5 passes a shot was taken which Ricketts pushed back into play...Marshall challenged for the ball on Rickett's push...unfortunately Marshall deflected the ball out to a Mexican who was left open by our #7...that Mexican lashed the ball (Remember deflected out by Marshall) thunderously into goal!

A series of errors started by Austin! ...then followed by Bibi...then Ricketts' unfortunate push directly into play in front of his goal...Marshall not getting a good foot onto the ball...our #7 Austin again not closing down the scorer!

Those are facts! What is wrong with the facts?

...and did say Bibi lost the ball other than tripping over the ball?

I did say Austin made a bad choice!
Austin had outlet passes that could have started an attack...or seased defensive pressure and he instead passed to Bibi who had players around him and the touch-line.

                      What is this?

The first goal resulted from an ill advised tackle from #12 ie Demar Philipps.
The foul was by #12, Philips. My original post blaming Austin was wrong.

To componnd things for some inexplicable reason Ricketts chose to hug the far post.
                      False!
Incidentally Ricketts stood forward of his goal-line (approximately 2 yards) and about two-thirds towards his right upright. Ricketts positioned his wall to protect the side of his goal nearest to the position from which the ball was kicked. That is what all good goalkeepers do!

He then guarded the unprotected side of the goal...plus giving himself a chance at balls going over or through the wall nearest to himself.

Ricketts did all any good goalkeeper could do.

...a novice such as myself predicted where the free-kick would go
                      Great!

...the only variable was if it would get over the wall. No one jumped on the kick so ......
So it went over the wall and no one jumped! Soooo....?

                          Shots on goal -
                          Mexico -
                          Jamaica -

Why is it we were not going for goal more often? The goals scored against us certainly showed that the ball 'flies' in that atmosphere. One shot be Fuller from the right of the Penalty-Area that took a flying save by the Mexican goalkeeper...a free-kick from the left by Mexico that had Ricketts effecting a flying save...the heavy swerving shot that Ricketts did well to block and which brought the thunderbolt ensuring goal...and the goal off the corner-kick all 'flew' towards and or in goal. Why the hell were we not 'drawing foot' on or around the penalty-area more frequently?

ooooooh...maybe because we were busy giving the ball to the Mexicans???

Karl is the best! Now, is everyone understanding how Karl could always make Tappa look good?

Austin had 5 outless passes, including Bibi, decided to pass it to Bibi who had enuff time to do whatever he wanted on the ball. Bibi chose to try and beat the Mexican, lost the ball, and somehow the blame goes back to Austin?

                              WTLF!!!

So, how about if we try and find out who passed the ball to Austin, because that dumbass player should have known better than to pass to Austin who obviously had some weird penchant to pass to a clear Bibi.

                              Incredible, Karl! Frikking incredible!
