The 2008/2009 Digicel Premier League will commence on Sunday September 21, 2008.
The all clear for the commencement of the League was given following a meeting between the Jamaica Football Federation (JFF) represented by General Secretary Horace Reid and Treasurer Garfield Sinclair and the Premier League Clubs Association (PLCA) represented by Chairman the Hon. Edward Seaga and Deputy Chairman Carvel Stewart. At that meeting full agreement was reached by both parties on all issues relating to the League with the PLCA agreeing to sign the final amended document to be presented this evening.
Consequently, the way is now clear for the new joint venture company to be in place in keeping with the mandate of the JFF Congress and Board that existence of this company be a reality for the new Premier League Season. August 31, 2008 was originally scheduled as the start of the League but the threat of Hurricane Gustav and its after effects forced a postponement. There were two further postponements due to a failure of the JFF and the PLCA to agree on a number of issues.
