  • REFEREE: Cancelling A Red Card Given To Wrong Player

What is the signal for the referee to cancel a red card. Here is the situation.

In a Mexican League game last night between UAG and San Luis, San Luis had a corner kick. UAG was ahead 4-1.

A UAG player, number 4, yanked down a San Luis player in the box. San Luis was awarded a penalty, and the referee gave a red card to a UAG player, number 6.

TV replays showed that the referee gave the red card to the wrong player. Number 6 DID NOT COMMIT THE FOUL. The foul was committed by number 4 .

The referee then appeared to be talking into his headset. He consulted with his linesman, and he apparently heard what the TV replays showed. Number 6 was allowed to remain in the game and Number 4 was given a red card.

This is a question for the former FIFA international referee Karl.
"Only when you drink from the river of silence shall you indeed sing. And when you have reached the mountain top, then you shall begin to climb. And when the earth shall claim your limbs, then shall you truly dance." ~ Kahlil Gibran
