Josmer Altidore's appearance for Villarreal on Saturday was short but sweet, as he nailed his team's fourth goal on the night - his first in La Liga - mere seconds after entering the game as a last-minute substitute.

Only three days following their embarrassing 5-0 defeat in the Copa del Rey to third-tier team Poli Ejido, Villarreal desperately needed to make a big statement in Bilbao's San Mamés stadium to shake off the only black mark on an otherwise brilliant start to their season, which had seen them previously undefeated through eleven in all competitions.

Altidore faces loan after making Liga history

Jozy Altidore is making his mark at Villarreal, even getting into the Spanish league history books. And yet, that might not be enough to keep the teenage American striker at the Spanish league club for the remainder of the season.

Altidore's 90th minute goal Saturday in Villarreal's 4-1 victory at Athletic Bilbao gave the teenage striker a special place in Spanish football as he became the first American to score in La Liga.

But even that might not be enough to save the United States international from being shipped out on loan come January.
