  • U.S. college player Grella signs with Leeds Utd

    Grella joins promotion hopefuls Leeds

Ex-Duke University front man Mike Grella has signed on with Leeds United in the English League One.

"[Grella] joined the club on a trial basis and made an immediate impact," Leeds head of media Paul Dews, told YA.

Grella, who hails from Glen Cove, New York was on trial with the team last month and did enough to impress with a memorable reserve game against Barnsley where he bagged a hat-trick.

"Donovan was excellent. We knew he was a good player, but he really didn't do anything wrong in the whole game and made it difficult for us."

Good choice. I hope he realized he had enough talent to be paid decent wages.

Congrats to Scott Sealy for realizing he goog get more money than the exploiters were paying.

Grella gets his kicks in England

When most of his classmates were looking forward to the next basketball game, Mike Grella was rushing through his classes with eyes on a different kind of crazed sporting environment.

The Duke soccer forward graduated early in December and wasted no time chasing his dream of playing in Europe. Last week, the New York native signed an 18-month contract with English team Leeds United.

In short, Grella didn't waste any time.

A minor US player joins a minor club. What possible relevance does this have on this site?

Said it b4 MLS rapes Caribbean players by paying them garbage. Sealey made about 30-35K a season. Shalrie Joseph isnt making anything significant either.

Zeppo: How did he get a work permit considering he does not have the national caps at the senior level?

OK, thanks. So that means he could also consider representing Italy if he is good enough.

Yes, the Italian passport is what allowed the transfer to happen. He never would have been eligible for a work permit.

And I wouldn't expect to see Italy calling up a player from the English 3rd division anytime soon.
