    Bell KO showdown!
... TG, M'Haven face-off for Corporate Area prize

THE impressive Tivoli Gardens hunt their third lien on the KSAFA Western Union Jackie Bell KO trophy when they face Meadhaven United in the final today at 5:00 pm at Anthony Spaulding Sports Complex.

Meanwhile, in a double treat for fans, the National Under-20 footballers will continue their Road to Egypt 2009 campaign against Costa Rica with an international friendly at 7:00 pm.

The Bell KO is in its 21st year and is named in honour of Jamaican sportsman Winthorpe 'Jackie' Bell, who died in a bus crash, along with fellow St George's College icon, Dennis Ziadie, during the World Cup Finals of 1986 in Mexico.

Bell was a former STGC Manning Cup player, national player, coach and president of Santos Football Club and later national coach. He was also a top football administrator.

The competition is contested by Corporate Area teams from the Syd Bartlett, Major, Super and Premier Leagues.

Tivoli Gardens, winners in 1994 and 2004, joined the competition at the quarter-final stage and brushed aside Boys' Town, 2-1, before dispatching giant killers Duhaney Park, 3-0, to reach the final.

With all the KSAFA Premier League teams getting a bye to the quarter-final stage, Meadhaven edged Arnett Gardens 1-0 before upsetting defending champions Harbour View, 3-1 on penalties, after battling to a 1-1 draw in regulation time.

Today's battle for the $350,000 winner's purse is expected to be intense as Meadhaven will be hunting their first lien on the top Corporate Area KO trophy.

Confidence is high in the Meadhaven camp after seeing off Arnett and Harbour View, and led by former National Under-20 striker, Keammar Daley, support should come from Leighton Neita, Andre Hickling, Rohan Williams, Lennox Creary, Weston Forrest, Roger Rodney and the evergreen William Richards.

Tivoli may be a bit low on morale after allowing a two-goal advantage and a spot in the Digicel Premier League End-of-Round final slip from their grasp.

But knowing coach Lenworth Hyde, that will be a motivational factor for the team and Meadhaven could be in for a hard time.

In two meetings this season, the teams battled to a 1-1 draw in September before Tivoli returned to win the second game, 2-0, on November 30.

Based on current form, Tivoli are favourites, but Meadhaven remain as dangerous as ever.

Meanwhile, the young Reggae Boyz will kick-start a series of international friendlies in the feature encounter and will host Costa Rica again on Saturday before welcoming Mexico next Tuesday.
They then travel to Fort Lauderdale to play an All-State Florida team on the 25th before engaging Canada's Under-20s on the 27th.

These matches will be used as preparation for the CONCACAF Under-20 World Cup Final Round Qualifiers set for March 6-15 in Trinidad & Tobago.
Jamaica are drawn in Group A alongside USA, El Salvador and winners of the Honduras-St Vincent & the Grenadines play-off set for March 2. Group B contains hosts T&T, Mexico, Canada and Costa Rica.
The top four teams will qualify for the FIFA World Cup Finals set for September in Egypt.

As part of their preparation, the Jamaica Football Federation has arranged matches against all the teams in Group B to ensure their flagship team gets adequate practice.

But like the senior team, the young Boyz are depleted by injuries to three regulars in striker Alanzo Adlam, left-back Christopher Banner and goalkeeper Andre Blake - all of Sporting Central Academy.

Reserve goalkeeper Dennis Taylor and his brother, Evan Taylor of Reno, will miss the game because of the death of another brother.
Top striker Dever Orgill is overseas with the Vancouver Whitecaps in Canada, but coach Donovan Duckie is nonetheless expecting a good performance.

"Despite the injuries we're looking for a quality performance. Winning is an objective for us but we have other objectives from a tactical point of view," said Duckie.

"Winning will build confidence, but we're preparing not for these games, but for the tournament in Trinidad, so we'll have to rotate players to get the adequate exposure," he added.

"Never doubt that a small group of thoughtful, committed citizens can change the world. Indeed, it is the only thing that ever has."
