Javier Aguirre has been officially appointed as the new coach of Mexico’s national team following the sacking of Sven-Goran Eriksson last Thursday.

The Swede was given the axe following El Tri’s shock 3-1 defeat at Honduras in the CONCACAF World Cup qualifiers. The official statement from the Federation’s headquarters read:
“The Mexican Football Federation and the Main Directorate of the National Team would like to inform that Javier Aguirre Onaindia will be presented as the new coach on April 16 at 12:30 (18:30 CET)”.

Meanwhile, according to Spanish sports daily, Marca, Eriksson will be given a $4.2 million compensation fee for his dismissal. This comes on top of the $7 million-plus he earned in the ten months he was at the job, where he was in charge of only 13 games ($553, 846 per game).

Sven could fit in with the numerous failed CEOs in America. Fock up .. yet walk away with millions. Sven seems to perfect the art, fired from England, walk away with millions, fired from Man City, walk away with millions ... now fired from Mexico.
