  • Confidence yes, arrogance no

Manchester United defender Nemandja Vidic has spoken ahead of the Champions League final with Barcelona and claimed that his teammates are not arrogant. Accusations of overconfidence have been levelled at the Red Devils in the past seven days following comments made by Patrice Evra about Arsenal’s capitulation in the semi-final at the Emirates but the Serbian defender has made clear that everybody at Old Trafford is respectful of their upcoming opponents.

    Speaking to Setanta, Vidic stressed:
“They [Barcelona] have so many very good players, especially up front.
“They scored so many goals this year. We respect them for that and we definitely have some work to do this week from that point of view, but, as well, we must concentrate on our game, to try and attack them and to see how they defend.

“I don’t think we are arrogant. We respect them as a team. Confidence, yes, we believe in ourselves. We won the league and we are in the final so why would we not believe in ourselves?
“But we respect them as well. We know it is going to be a hard game and we have a big job to do, but we are looking forward to it and we will try and win it.”
