Even the broadsheets today were suckered in to this story.<P class=anfy2>How can this happen? Surely the line 'I would prefer to join Newcastle over Liverpool' suggests the story was a complete fabrication. Let's fact it, even Michael Owen didn't really want to join them. <P class=anfy2>So we thought we would shed some clarification on the current state of play, to save you some time from certain other websites continuous updates every time the player goes the toilet.<P class=anfy2>Dirk Kuyt plays for Feyenoord. The reds are prepared to pay £10 million for him. Feyenoord were originally expecting £12-£14 million. With the leagues about to start their stance is softening and they are resigned to losing the player.<P class=anfy2>Newcastle are garbage. As a result they feel compelled to offer crazy money to the player and club. Liverpool and Rafa refuse to pay over the odds on wages. Dirk Kuyt would prefer to move to Liverpool obviously. <P class=anfy2>Both Rick Parry and Rafa Benitez are working on an offer that will be acceptable to the club and player. <P class=anfy2>When or If the player signs for Liverpool then we will have all the information on the player. Until then I don't want to hear any more sentences that involve Kuyt, Newcastle, Feyenoord or Dutchman. And shame on the national press - check your sources in future. </TD></TR></TBODY></TABLE></TD></TR></TBODY></TABLE>

Liverpool chief executive Rick Parry is today trying to conclude a deal for the Dutch international in the hope of landing him before the weekend but with the player on international duty, that may not be possible.
Ideally Rafa would like the £10million hitman at Melwood before the weekend but he may have to wait until the Sheffield United fixture is out of the way unless Feyenoord agree to his early release.
A source close to agent Rob Jansen told us: "Newcastle United have offered Kuyt around £90,000-a-week to join them. That's how much he means to them. Liverpool have offered him less than half of that.
"The fee isn't a problem but Feyenoord want this paying quickly or with a significant advance of cash. Liverpool are tying to keep this amount low whereas Newcastle have offered a bigger incentive to Feyenoord to deal with them instead.
"Money has never been a big issue in Dirk's career which is why he's never been in a rush to leave Feyenoord."
He added: "Of course he'd prefer to move to Liverpool and if they pay him less he's fine with this. He will only move to Newcastle if the Anfield door is closed on him by Feyenoord."
Meanwhile the Liverpool Daily Post are today reporting that Rafa is <SPAN style="FONT-STYLE: italic">'back at his desk </SPAN><SPAN style="FONT-FAMILY: Verdana">at Melwood today hoping to conclude the £10m switch of Dirk Kuyt'.</SPAN>
