  • Footballer stabbed at half time

A Sunday league footballer was stabbed after a row erupted before his manager's half-time team talk.
The match between Bestwood Miners' Welfare and Sycamore St Ann's was abandoned following the attack in Nottinghamshire on Sunday.
The Bestwood player was taken to hospital and is in a stable condition, Nottinghamshire Police said.
It is understood the man was stabbed in front of 20 spectators as he waited to hear his manager's half-time team talk during the Notts Combination League game in Bestwood Village on Sunday morning.
A gang of youths reportedly arrived at the game just before half-time, and as the players gathered for their team talks, one of the men approached the Bestwood team.
A row then erupted and a player was stabbed. He was driven to hospital by a friend following the attack at about 11.20am.
A police spokeswoman said: "It is thought to have been a targeted incident, with a group of youths approaching the victim before attacking him.
"A man was subsequently taken to Nottingham's Queen's Medical Centre where he was found to have sustained stab wounds. He remains in a stable condition.
"Inquiries are ongoing with officers speaking to members of both teams involved in the football match. A forensic search of the scene took place yesterday."
