Jamaican could be making his way to Bramall Lane on transfer deadline day

SUNDERLAND defender Nyron Nosworthy is the latest transfer target for Sheffield United.

Manager Kevin Blackwell is keen to sign Nosworthy on loan before the transfer window closes at 5pm today.

Ironically, the Jamaican has been pushed down the pecking order at the Stadium of Light by the arrival of Matthew Kilgallon from the Blades.

Speaking after his side's 3-1 defeat at West Bromwich Albion, Blackwell confirmed that a centre-back and a left-back were his priorities.

"We have nine games in February and I want those positions nailed down and solid if we are going to have a real go," he said. "We are trying very hard but every time I have gone for someone it is Middlesbrough and Newcastle United in for the same people and I have not got the financial clout to compete with that."

Blackwell revealed that a South African-born left-back had failed a medical with the Blades on Saturday morning.

He also confirmed that there were no offers on the table for any of the club's existing players.

"If offers come in that are deemed to good to turn down, that will affect what I do," he said. "I don't want to lose anyone but I have already lost Kilgallon. Fortunately, we have no offers on the table for anyone now.

"But look at what Newcastle have done this week," he said. "They have brought in three players and made themselves very strong

"West Brom have got two lads from abroad. That's the difference now – it is the financial clout allowing you to bring in better players.

"You only had to look at the back of the programme today; West Brom had four or five more players than us!" he sighed.
