Aberdeen have handed a trial to former QPR midfielder Richard Langley. The Jamaican international is set to fly in and bid to impress manager Craig Brown.
The Dons manager has been keen to bolster his squad and Langley is one of two free agents who will get a chance to land a deal at Pittodrie.
Langley was most recently with Thai side Pattaya United but spent most of his career in England. The 31 year old has played for Bristol City, Luton Town and Cardiff City as well as two spells at Queens Park Rangers, for whom he made over 150 appearances.
The midfielder has been honoured at international level, earning a dozen caps for Jamaica.
Craig Brown has said that he would also be looking at another option as he aims to strengthen his squad.
"I will look to take in two midfielders on trial next week," he said after his team’s 0-0 draw with Hearts on Saturday..
"One is an experienced foreign international, who has played at a high level in England. I have already seen him in action.
"There will be a chance for me to see him close up and it will also give him the opportunity to have a look at Aberdeen.”

WC qualifying is likely to begin in late 2011 for lower ranked teams (BVI & Cayman etc) & the format has changed. The draw for qualifying will occur at the next Concacaf congress (date?)

NEW CONCACAF WORLD CUP QUALIFYING PLAN APPROVED

CONCACAF’s proposed new format for World Cup Qualifying has been approved by FIFA, according to reports from Univision. The new format, would replace the Hexagonal stage with two groups of four teams. The winners of the groups will qualify for the 2014 World Cup in Brazil. The second place teams would then face off for the final spot. The loser of the second place match would then play the 5th Place team from South America’s CONMEBOL confederation for a berth in will replace the worlds biggest sporting event.

The controversial new system has come under fire because it’s format is designed to keep the regions two biggest powerhouses separate. Mexico and the United States are unlikely to meet at any time during the two-year qualification cycle.

The draw for the various confederations World Cup Qualifying fixtures will take place at FIFA’s Switzerland headquarters on May 31st, 2011.

CONCACAF’s eight seeded teams are to be determined by their standing in the May 2011 FIFA rankings.
