LOS ANGELES (AFP) - All 2,000 spots in an open player tryout for Chivas USA that will become reality television programming were filled in less than eight hours, the Major League Soccer club announced.
Internet registrations for the dream chance at a football career came from Britain, Canada, Brazil, Bolivia, Colombia, El Salvador, Guatemala, Honduras, Mexico, Panama, Peru and Venezuela as well as from 41 of the 50 US states.
More than half of the hopefuls, whose average age is 19, were from California.
Sueno MLS was launched on a US Spanish-language sports TV show on Univision, which will show highlights of tryouts in a reality-show format and reveal the winner of the competition on March 25.
The month-long quest will kickoff with four days of tryouts starting February 16.
Sixty players will be invited back for a second workout on February 24 with the final 24 competing on March 3 for a two-week contract with Chivas, a chance to train with Chivas and possibly a roster spot for the season opener in April.
