It says nothing about the growing popularity of the sport in the USA, and a lot about the well established popularity and traditions of football in the Latino diaspora of the USA. Parse the total number adn concetrate on the Univision viewers, who I think were supporting Mexico, not the USA.

What it tells us is that the USA's efforts to keep Mexicans from crossing the border in droves are failing.

Karl - there is no question that the sport is growing in popularity in the US, but unfortunately, not with the right demographic. The problem stems from the inability to attract fans from the working class level. As it stands today, the gameis a middle class game among white Americans, and virtually non-existent among the black working class. Until they figure out the formula to attract that demographic to the sport, football will languish in America. As dweetsweet said, the game is already established among the latino working class, so they have to make sure they build on that foothold, but they require different tactics to attract the average American youth...maybe if they can get 50 cent or Sean Paul to bigup football we might get a chance.

              Unknowingly - ha!

What appears to be even more "helpless" is your inability to see the connection. Way off target? In your book!
