ST JOHN'S, Antigua ---Defending champion Jamaica went down to a shock 2-1 defeat to French Guiana in their opening CFU Caribbean Championship Group B game at the Sir Vivian Richards Cricket Stadium Saturday night.

Jamaica fell behind in the 19th minute by virtue of an own goal, but rallied three minutes later through Tramaine Stewart.

But despite their dominance, the Reggae Boyz conceded again through Rudy Evens who lashed home in the 48th minute.

The result means that Jamaica are rooted at the bottom of the standings with Cuba, who lost 0-1 to another French-speaking team Martinique in the evening's curtain-raiser.

              --- Sean Williams
