the guy was 7 yards to the right of the last defender and barely 2 strides behind...a pass behind the defender in stride to the receiver near the semi circle gets him one on one with the goalie...A foot race between a backtracking defender turned away from goal and an onrushing forward facing goal is no contest...Simple...

It was 2 V 2 on the run back.. the Defenders were well positioned to challenge either an early cross or a late cross to the far side player.. dem was not blind.. the deepest defender was watching that all the way..
Mattocks did the right thing taking the ball into the 18 and getting the defenders to commit to his side..then cutting across.. Intelligent Ball ! the player in the wrong was Hurtado.. he was positioned for the pass giving an excellent angle on goal but was offside..
