Liverpool boss Rodgers in court with son as Old Bailey is told how 'arrogant' players sexually assaulted teenager

    By SHENAI RAIF, PRESS ASSOCIATION
    PUBLISHED: 10:20 EST, 8 May 2013 | UPDATED: 10:20 EST, 8 May 2013

A group of 'arrogant' footballers sexually assaulted a teenage girl while she was sleeping off a night on the town, the Old Bailey was told.

The 19-year-old was photographed with the top of her pink dress pulled down so the players could show their friends, jurors heard.

The girl woke in a Brighton hotel room to find photographs of the assault on a mobile phone, it was alleged.

In court: Anton Rodgers arrived at the Old Bailey with his father - Liverpool boss Brendan - and mother Susan

The four members of Brighton and Hove Albion football club had been celebrating a match win in July 2011 when they met the woman in a club.

Brighton players Anton Rodgers, 20, Lewis Dunk, 21, and George Barker, 21, and former team-mate Steve Cook, 22, who now plays for Bournemouth, deny sexual assault.

Rodgers, son of Liverpool manager Brendan Rodgers, Barker and Cook deny voyeurism.

Dunk was cleared of the charge at an earlier trial where the jury could not agree verdicts on the others.

Retrial: Lewis Dunk (left) and George Baker arriving at the Old Bailey

Richard Barton, prosecuting, told the retrial: 'These were the actions of a group of arrogant young men.

'They believed that as a result of their privileged position as professional footballers, they could do this to this young woman and she would not come forward and say what happened.'
Mr Barton said the woman, through drink and tiredness, was unconscious. She had a gap of several hours in her memory but had some flashbacks.

The woman had woken in the morning to find herself in bed with Rodgers in a room where another player was asleep, the court heard.

Moved on: Steve Cook now plays for Bournemouth

Her bra had been removed and the top of her dress pulled down, exposing her breasts. Toilet paper and what looked like shaving foam was strewn around the room, said Mr Barton.

After asking to use Rodgers mobile phone she began scrolling through around 10 pictures.

Mr Barton added: 'She saw there was a whole series of photographs on the phone of a young woman wearing a pink dress.
'The woman was lying on a bed, clearly not awake. In some of them there were semi-naked men around her.

'Then she realised to her horror the unconscious woman in the pink dress was herself.'

"It therefore is useless and pointless, unless it is for share malice and victimisation to arrest and charge a 92-year-old man for such a simple offence. There is nothing morally wrong with this man smoking a spliff; the only thing wrong is that it is still on the law books," said Chevannes.

When I make these post , its in reference to some who believe the RBYZ needs to throw under the bus those English RBYZ who get caught up in a criminal case or any RBYZ .

I reject it , I believe they should be supported as it is all over the world by clubs and FAs , England is a classic example half of them have had a criminal record or charge laid against them.

    KING and Morrison anyone ?

What the fornication is wrong with you? It is his son. Some fathers actually try to be there for their children, no matter what.

I applaud Rogers for being there.

THINK lazie, if it wasn't his son and it was a star Liverpool player would there be a different reaction ? Is it the 1st where a club has defended or stood by a player who was charged with an offence ?

          THINK !

X it is the man's son. He should be in court with his son. It doesn't mean he is defending anything wrong.

Is it really his son ? move beyond the obvious deal with the issue , is it the 1st time a club has stood behind a player with a charged offence ? I would throw in the FA and players union ?
