    Boyz hold star-studded Tottenham Hotspur

NASSAU, Bahamas --- Jamaica's Reggae Boyz and English giants Tottenham Hotspur played to a sometimes exciting 0-0 draw in their exhibition game at the Thomas A Robinson National Stadium here yesterday, which marked the first game at the spanking new venue.

Tottenham threatened in the eight minute when Jermaine Defoe was played through from midfield, slipped goalkeeper Richard MacCallum but the England frontman got himself into a difficult angle and his final shot ended into the side netting.

Jamaica showed little or no hint of being starstruck playing against more celebrated players and appeared composed with the ball, but relied mostly on hitting the English club side on the counter-attack.

Vancouver Whitecaps striker Darren Mattocks had the first good chance for Jamaica when he unleashed from 20 yards, but the experienced Brad Friedel was down to block the scorcher.

Up to that point, Keammar Daley and Jermaine Hue were doing a credible job of supporting Jeremie Lynch and Mattocks playing a shade ahead of them.

And in the 32nd minute both midfielders combined for a piece of magic of their own when Hue, wearing the captain’s armband, sprayed wide for the diminutive former Preseton North End man, who took off down the left channel, cut inside his man Kyle Walker before discharging a low cannon that had Friedel beaten but the post intervened and spoiled a potential masterpiece.

In the 35th minute, Jamaica continued their enterprising and sometimes imaginative play when Evan Taylor emerged from the shadows with a cheeky scoop shot that sent Lynch goalward, but even with his long legs the latter couldn’t get that final touch and Friedel mopped up.

In the last move of the first half, Hue again conjured up some magic when he played delightfully for Mattocks to run onto down the right side, but Totteham’s Michael Dawson chopped him down as he made a play for goal.

In the 53rd minute, replacement goalkeeper Andre Blake was forced to get behind a shot from Gylfi Sigurdsson in one of a series of Tottenham raids inspired by the wily Emmanuel Adebayor who came into the game as a second half substitute.

Since coming on as a 60th minute sub, Gareth Bale made his prescence felt instantly with his teasing runs at the Jamaicans. In the 71st minute, the English Footballer of the Year, gave the crowd a sweetener when he executed the famous nutmeg (salad) on Alvas Powell inside the 18-yard box.

After being pushed back for great spells of the second half, Jamaica looked more purposeful going forward with the introduction of Jermaine Johnson, who spiced things up with his incisive runs.

If nothing else, Jamaica had the better scoring opportunities of the match and created another such opportunity in the 75th minute when Mattocks got into a good position to shoot, forcing substitute goalkeeper Hugo Lloris to block, but Hue following up could not find the target.

Eight minutes later, Lynch fancied a go himself and tested Lloris from way out but the goalkeeper rose majestically to tip over the crossbar.

With three minutes left, Bale wormed his way into a good shooting position, and he let fly at the right time but while Blake got behind the shot, he spilled the ball for Jake Livermore who got the ball into the goal from an off-side position and the referee ruled appropriately.

Jamaica, here for a 12-day pre-World Cup camp, will remain here for another match against the Bahamas national team on May 31.

Jamaica --- Richard McCallum (Andre Blake 45th), Daniel Gordon, Alvas Powell, Xavian Virgo, Obrian Woodbine, Damion Williams, Jermaine Hue (Montrose Phinn 71st), Keammar Daley (Jermaine Johnson 66th), Evan Taylor, Darren Mattocks, Jeremie Lynch.

    Subs not used: Rodolph Austin.

Tottenham Hotspur --- Brad Friedel (Hugo Lloris 45th), Jake Livermore, Steven Caulker, Michael Dawson, Kyle Naughton (Benoit Assou-Ekotto 40th), Kyle Walker, Mousa Dembele (Gareth Bale (60th), Gylfi Sigurdsson, Ryan Mason, Lewis Holtby, Jermaine Defoe (Emmanuel Adebayor 45th).

    Booked: Dawson (45th)

There is nothing morally wrong with this man smoking a spliff; the only thing wrong is that it is still on the law books," said Chevannes.

You must be smoking today. Mi nuh have no problem with "bush league" ballers being in the National program.
Who has been given the treatment that Dada get. He was rusting away in the youth team for Preston and Tappa call him for friendly internationals. He had no team and was out of match shape, yet they called him to the Caribbean Cup squad. You think Hue would ever get them bly deh?

By your standards he should be in for some good treatment.

There are 26 players called to camp and 23 players can suit up on the game day. Lynch will most likely be dropped, at least one of the goalkeepers will be dropped (squad currently has 4) and JJ is suspended for the game against Mexico.

Justing hoping for the best 11, but with Tappa yuh neva know.I hope its a 1 for 1 ,meaning Hue starting and Dadda coming on as sub in the last 25 min.

I really cant see why we cant have them both in the team, exceptional players.
