U.S. Finishes with One Point in Tournament’s “Group of Death”
KAYSERI, Turkey (June 27, 2013) – Despite a valiant effort in the tournament’s “Group of Death,” the U.S. Under-20 Men’s National Team was knocked out of the 2013 FIFA U-20 World Cup after a 4-1 loss to Ghana this evening at Kadir Has Stadium.

Needing a win to finish in third place in Group A, which also included tournament favorites Spain and France, to possibly earn a ticket to the Round of 16 as one of the four third-place teams, the U.S. couldn’t hold off a potent Ghana attack. The U.S. lost to Spain 4-1 in the opening match before drawing 1-1 against France and finished the group in fourth place with one point.

Ghana had a total of 25 shots, including 17 on goal, as they peppered the U.S. defense and tested U.S. goalkeeper Cody Cropper throughout the match. Despite the score line, Cropper did a remarkable job to keep the U.S. in the game until the final 12 minutes when Ghana scored their third and fourth goals.

This looks bigger than Tab Ramos USAF.

I was encouraged by his changes in the France game.

      A 4-1 flogging is unacceptable.

Hardly think Tab will continue an Head coach for the U-20's.

USA players just don't know how to handle ball (against Ghana)... I'd replace Ramos with a Uruguayan coach

YES!!! This is bigger than Ramos, & I talked about this before.
If the U.S. wants to become a force in world football, they have to 1. FOCUS on pushing the game in the inner city & 2. Bringing in more coaches, with roots in the Caribbean, Africa & Latin America into the "system/program". If you look at teams & players that these coaches guide, you will see a difference in their creativity & flow.
In Ramos defense, he's working with players that were groomed in the present system, that is predictable & bland, just like what happened to Klinsman when he took over.

USAF, I agree 100% that the best talent pool for the US is the inner city. In fact, this is the case in most countries but there are two problems. The first is that inner city kids have to play the game independently of structure, as they do in other parts of the world and as they do in this country in basketball. For this to happen they have to have a passion for the game. America is not there yet and won't be until these kids are exposed to the game more intimately.

The second problem is that the present system is a money system; it is designed (in my opinion) to keep the inner city kids out. The path to the pros is through college and the path to college is through travel soccer. How many inner city kids can afford the high costs of playing on these teams? It is patently ridiculous. If you can't afford to play, you simply don't have a chance. Anyone who has been to any of these tournaments in the US will tell you that the number of people of colour is appallingly low...and that's where all the college scouts are.
