I see you pushing the emphasis on SOLID defense. Well I agree with you!!! After the draw against Mexico I made a post stating "If it ain't broke, don't fix it", & posted that Jamaica should use the same team & strategy for their next game, BUT some posters said that approach was stupid, because it was a home game so the team needed to be an offensive one, and attack Panama.
NOTE: That feeling that defense wins championships is also widely shared in U.S. sports. -
Yes, very good man, not just US sports man, life in general, defense keeps you alive a long time, hey look no further than this thing called the Great Wall of china, that is the ultimate testament to a planned man built defense that allowed the continued survival and thrivival of one of the greatest nations on earth in virtually one continued multiple evolved state over two thousand years, there is really nothing man built that can compare to the audacious vision, leadership, implementation, execution, maintenance, continuity and ultimately long term integrity and use value of the Great Wall in defending China. The greatest nations over the long run had excellent natural defensive advantages enhanced by planned defensive systems such as England/ britain surrounded by a moat and then protected by a superior navy, thus a defensive advantage became the platform for developing attacking strength, after the defeat of the Spanish Armada, the English navy essentially became a wicked counterattack force which was untouchable for the next almost 300 years, allowing a relatively small place like England to become a world power, even dominating china from the safe side of the wall, the seaside which should have been a natural defense but not against the English.
In American football and in basketball especially you see the vital role of defense in shutting down the opposition and thus in winning the war and thus the titles! Except in the cases where the ref wins the game for the team.
I think many see football as fundamentally about attack and ball possession not realizing that the average possession of one team of the ball s about 50 percent if the teams are somewhat equal, what that means is 50 percent of the time you better be damn good at not having the ball and making sure the opposition does not get into your vulnerable zone and when you attack that your shape does not get too distorted and weak to allow your opponent to strike when defensively you are at your weakest. Getting jamaica to develop and play such a style is going to take a lot of commitment, work and discipline if it ever happens the rest of concacaf will be unhappy for a long time.
