FOLLOWING a four-day scouting mission, Drew Burwash - the Lindsay Wilson College football coach from Colombia, Kentucky - selected Shereen Clarke of Bridgeport High School and Portmore Strikers for a full football scholarship to the US institution.

According to Elaine Walker-Brown, chairman of the JFF women's football committee who organised the squad games, everything went well and the turnout was excellent.

Four games were organised, two in the Corporate Area and another two in the South-
    Central Confederation region.

However, Burwash selected only Clarke, who was offered a scholarship which she will take up in August of this year.

The Lindsay Wilson coach has already met with the youngster's parents and coach on Monday, and everything is being arranged for her to begin her tenure at the institution, where she will pursue a course in business administration..

Walker-Brown said there were other players that Burwash was impressed with, but they are not graduating this year. He left a list of those players.

Meanwhile, Portmore Striker's coach Cornel Clarke pointed out that the American coach chose Clarke because of a number of reasons.

"He thought she had good work rate and work ethic and he said she is a powerful player with good skills. He also spoke with her and from that conversation he determined that she has a good attitude. He also asked me about her conduct and her behaviour.
"But she is a well-behaved girl and who does really well in school, so I guess it's a combination of all those things," Clarke's coach said.

He added that the 17-year-old midfielder, who in also an national Under-20 player, was a bit surprised by her selection.

"I don't think she really knew she would get it as rumours had it that he (Burwash) came to look at three other girls. However, she really welcomes this opportunity because she wants to help better herself," he said.
"Never doubt that a small group of thoughtful, committed citizens can change the world. Indeed, it is the only thing that ever has."
